Sintering
After pressing, the green compacts are sintered under high temperature.. This is accomplished by utilizing vacuum, H2 atmosphere, or dissociated ammonia sintering furnaces, capable of producing temperatures up to 2100°C. Each furnace is process controlled with feedback systems linked to furnace temperature, gas flow, vacuum, and power consumption. The advanced sintering processes add to the flexibility and overall precision of the final product.
The majority of the sintering is done on a batch process, with sintered coupons used to verify product quality. The high temperature H2 atmosphere furnace is a pusher style furnace. This furnace allows Towanda Metadyne to continuously stoke product for large volume demands. To fully compliment Towanda Metadyne's sintering capabilities, a newly installed sinter-hip furnace has been added to the production sintering system.
